Laser Skin Rejuvenation
Advancements in medical laser technology over the last decade have vastly expanded the spectrum of interventions that can be used to promote or restore the health of your skin. The strength and precision of these tools allow less invasive treatments that deliver impressive results while maintaining a high margin of safety.
Micro Laser Peel®
With the Sciton Contour Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL), Dr. Krever is able to deliver concentrated light energy to safely remove a thin layer of dull outer skin. By ablating (vaporizing) the uppermost layer of dead cells, this minimal downtime procedure reveals fresh, healthy skin beneath. Termed “Micro Laser Peel®” (MLP) because of the conservative depth that is reached by the laser, this procedure leaves the entire face smoother, brighter, more even in tone, and texturally more consistent. Great for skin that has seen some neglect, minor sun damage, or other environmental insults, the MLP is an easy and rapid way to freshen facial skin. MLP is highly customizable and can be done in a series or in conjunction with Profractional-XC® or deeper spot resurfacing. Only a topical anesthetic will be necessary for your total comfort during this peel and downtime is typically limited to 4 days, brief enough for you to return to your life without missing a thing.
Just as we accrue wrinkles through daily life, we suffer accidents and blemishes that create scars. Our Profractional XC® laser treatment may be used to reduce the appearance of these facial or body scars. The Profractional XC® laser pierces the scar and stimulates tissue beneath, stimulating growth of new light-colored and evenly textured skin. Scar reduction treatments require limited recovery time and the scar will be noticeably improved within 3-5 treatments. We may pair laser scar revision with intralesional steroid injections or BBL photorejuvenation for best results.
Fractional Laser Therapy
Treatment with the Sciton Profractional-XC® is a revolutionary technique for rehabilitating problem skin by stimulating new cell growth and deep skin remodeling. Similar to the Sciton Contour TRL used in MLP and deep resurfacing, the Profractional-XC is an erbium laser, which vaporizes tissue with minimal heat. It is that lack of thermal conduction that lends the treatment a quick recovery period. In contrast to traditional laser peels, the Profractional-XC® only ablates a percentage of the skin’s surface, albeit to a much greater depth. The tissue removed is limited to incredibly narrow (microscopic) columns that reach into the deeper layers of the skin. The superficial outermost portion of these tiny channels heals rapidly, minimizing downtime while the deepest reaches heal slowly over time, revealing skin remodeling over the subsequent weeks and months.
Profractional XC® is recommended for patients seeking improvement in textural issues such as scarring and is considered the gold standard for treatment of acne scars. It can also be helpful for other conditions such as stretch marks (striae) melasma or deeper lines and wrinkles when deep resurfacing would rather be avoided.
Utilizing the Sciton Contour TRL, Laser Resurfacing is a full surface peel similar to MicroLaserPeel®, only to a significantly greater depth. It is the go-to treatment for skin requiring major rejuvenation and can deliver astonishing improvement in lines and wrinkles that might otherwise seem too far-gone for real improvement. Laser skin resurfacing may be your ideal treatment if you struggle with:
- Wrinkles, both fine and deep
- Loose skin, especially under the eyes
- Rough, thickened or cobbled skin
- “Lipstick lines” a.k.a. “smokers lines”
- “Liver spots” and other sun damage
- Actic Keratoses
…and would like the concern eliminated, for years to come. This robust procedure removes the epidermis and penetrates the dermis, both eliminating unwanted skin cells and stimulating the growth of new, healthy cells. Benefits of the process are renewed collagen production and smoother, tighter skin. Because the procedure is more intense, a light oral sedative and local anesthesia will be administered and patients will follow a detailed post-care procedure for several days after the peel. Patients will likely have a recovery time of 1-2 weeks, but will enjoy the dermal enhancements for years. Laser resurfacing is recommended for older patients, those with significant sun damage, and any patient hoping to make a drastic but non-surgical enhancement.
BBL BroadBand Light (BBL) Skin Rejuvenation
While technically not considered a true laser, BBL BroadBand Light® technology utilizes the power of super-intensified pulsed light to restore even color and tone to skin. By taking advantage of specific wavelengths of light which interact with various targets in the skin (pigmentation, redness), this treatment beams into tissues non-ablatively and selectively destroys elements that are detracting from your skin’s natural radiance. Discoloration from sun exposure or past blemishes as well as persistent redness and broken blood vessels are removed like laundry stains after as little as three treatments. One of our most popular treatments because of its minimal downtime, BBL® treatments are fast, easy, and remarkably effective.
Nothing makes you feel the effects of age quite like loose skin. Skin laxity can also be uncomfortable and unappealing, especially when on visible areas like the neck, face, and hands. SkinTyte® is our no-downtime, noninvasive skin tightening intervention. SkinTyte® employs infrared light energy to heat, destabilize, and contract collagen in the deep dermis. This tightens the area and kick-starts natural healing, generating a firmer collagen foundation. If you are looking for a non-surgical way to improve sagging skin, Skintyte® may be your answer.
Another form of non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation, Laser Genesis® gradually warms the dermis, the living layer of your skin that is responsible for collagen production. This dermal heating refreshes the skin and enhances collagen production by triggering the natural processes that your skin uses to heal from burns (without actually causing a burn!).
- Reduced fine lines
- More even skin tone
- Softening acne scarring
- Less obvious pores
- Reduced redness
No anesthesia is necessary for this gentle procedure – many patients consider it relaxing and even report their skin feeling wonderful, warm, and firm immediately following treatment. For maximum results, we recommend 6-8 treatments, spaced 2-4 weeks apart. We typically combine this treatment with a microdermabrasion to prepare the skin for optimal laser absorption. Laser Genesis® has virtually zero downtime though the skin may be mildly pink for a short time following treatment (up to a few hours).
Laser and Light Based Hair Removal
Hair removal can take up a surprisingly large part of our lives – especially for women. Many of us feel more comfortable, attractive, and confident without body hair. But we need not remain slaves to waxing, plucking, threading, and tweezing. With laser hair removal, your body hair will be permanently eradicated for carefree, hair-free skin. Our physician will beam laser or intensified light into hair follicles, where the light energy is absorbed, destroying any actively growing follicles. After about 6-8 of these hair removal sessions, the overwhelming majority of hair follicles have been permanently destroyed and can no longer produce hair. Laser and light based hair removal is precise and speedy, treating a quarter-sized area every second. It is gentle and can also be performed on any portion of your body or face. Save yourself the future time, energy, and products spent on removing hair and do away with troublesome unwanted hair forever.
Laser Vein Treatment
As winter finally fades away, it can be a joyful ritual to unpack your shorts, swimsuits and short hemlines from storage and head out into the warm weather. For those with spider and varicose veins on their legs however, this moment is less than exciting and a bit more anxiety provoking. Devising strategies to hide your legs rather than enjoying carefree, warm weather clothing can be uncomfortable and unpleasant. With laser vein treatment, it is possible to permanently remove these unsightly vessels and give you back fresher, more youthful legs. Depending on your particular needs, Dr. Krever may perform sclerotherapy (Asclera injections) in conjunction with laser vein treatment. Laser vein reduction is more commonly used for simple spider veins while sclerotherapy is often the treatment of choice for larger varicose veins. Unsightly leg veins are common; they may be caused by many factors, including age, gender, pregnancy, weight, prolonged standing or sitting, and genetics. No matter the cause, they do not need to restrict your activities or impact your style. A solution exists at the Center for Aesthetic Medicine.
